NYFW Fall 2013 Nails: Morgan Taylor

New polish brand Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer made its debut at Fall/Winter Fashion Week recently, premiering a range of shades from the core collection at shows including Catherine Malandrino, Betsey Johnson, Victoria by Victoria Beckham and DSquared2.

At NYFW Catherine Malandrino, lead nail technician Michelle Class created a neutral nail shade that blended easily into all skin tones, by combining three different lacquers from the Morgan Taylor collection: two parts It's in the Nude, one part Birthday Suit and a drop of Polished Up.

"Workout chic" reigned supreme at Betsey Johnson's NYFW presentation, merging Johnson's signature outrageous style with gym-ready apparel. Class painted nails with Morgan Taylor Little Black Dress, giving each nail a different letter in white: B, J, K and A. They stood for "Betsey Johnson Kicks Ass." So sassy! The evening portion of Johnson's show saw models' nails dressed in All White Now, giving black apparel an extra pop.

Victoria by Victoria Beckham focused on an "intellectual-beatnik" theme at NYFW, with nails mainly garbed in nude and natural shades—and clipped short. Class applied Need for Speed Top Coat, commenting that the nude nail trend "is definitely something that will be sticking around for a while."

In London, the Holly Fulton show went full-throttle "punk chic," with 1970s art school rock and blaring Patti Smith providing the atmospheric inspiration. Class created custom stiletto nails, with the updated French manicure including Man of the Moment and Little Black Dress. The nails echoed the makeup, which consisted of a voluptuous pout accompanied by dark lip liner and vibrant red lipstick.

Milan Fashion Week featured the DSquared2 show, where designers Dean and Dan Caten selected From Paris with Love to complement their menswear-inspired collection of velvet suits, leather driving gloves, tuxedo shirts and oversized costume jewelry. The deep berry burgundy shade, according to Morgan Taylor creative director Alesia Lanzo, "put a modern twist on the 1940s-inspired look."

The Les Copains runway show in Milan showcased warm knits and wool trench coats. To complement the neutral runway palette, Lanzo created a custom blend of In the Nude, Birthday Suit and Touch of Latte Please, which "gave the lacquer some warmth."
