Sebastian Professional’s What’s Next Challenge Sets The Spotlight on Past Winner, Sarah Merrie

Awarded grand prize winner for her mastery in color vibrancy, past winner Sarah Merrie electrified the judges, and the Sebastian styling team alike. She joined the Sebastian stylist team backstage crafting perfect buns and sultry side-sweeps at the alice + olivia spring/summer 2012 presentation during New York Fashion Week. The hairstyling superstar dishes on what it takes to win and what life behind the chair has been like for her since.

Q: What did you do right after you found out you won?
Merrie: I jumped up and down a few times and screeched like a schoolgirl!  Then I called Hairroin Salon where I work and told my Hairroin family.
Q: How was your experience backstage at NYFW?  Any memorable moments?
Merrie: My experience was phenomenal.  It was intense because there were a lot of models, and we had a very limited amount of time to get them ready in some pretty challenging looks.  But, Sebastian’s Lead Stylist Design Team Member Thomas Dunkin was cool as a cucumber though and his calm determination really set the tone for the rest of the team. I think that was really the key to pulling it off!
Q: How has your win impacted your career?
Merrie: It inspired me to push myself even harder.  There is always more to learn in this industry, and I think the infinite possibilities of that are thrilling.
Q: What are your immediate career plans?
Merrie: Right now I am working on a Red Carpet-focused special occasion styling class for the P&G Studio LA with my bestie hairdresser friend Luis Payne.  Working in Hollywood has been a great learning experience for us on this subject, and we are looking forward to sharing what we have learned along the way with our peers.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Merrie: I see myself being at least 20% more awesome at making people fall in love with their own reflections!
Fame and glory waits for no one, and Sebastian Professional calls all creative minds to enter its What’s Next Challenge.  Beauty junkies and fashion gurus alike have until November 30th to make their dream of attending New York Fashion Week a reality.
