Ecocert's Sustainable Wellbeing Center certification promotes centers that are committed to an environmental approach with its products, services, equipment and facilities.

Ecocert has created the Sustainable Wellbeing Center third-party certification to recognize and promote centers that are committed to an environmental approach with products, services, equipment and facilities respectful of the planet and people. The certification will be given to spas, beauty centers, hair salons, fitness centers and barbershops.

The Sustainable Wellbeing Center certification will allow certified centers to address the challenges of naturalness, traceability, ethics and environmental protection. Its aim is to promote and bring together initiatives already underway and encourage new ones. The certification considers three main challenges: reducing environmental footprint through sustainable management of water, energy and waste; offering and using certified natural and/or organic products and implementing social criteria to ensure a healthy workplace for staff and quality services for customers.

The Sustainable Wellbeing Center offers three levels of certification. Level 1 includes requirements for all three challenges. To obtain certification levels 2 and 3, it is necessary to fulfill additional commitments, which can be chosen from a list of about 30 suggestions, to match the specific issues each center faces. An annual audit is organized by Ecocert to verify compliance.

"Thanks to Ecocert’s worldwide presence with 37 subsidiaries, we offer the Sustainable Wellbeing Center certification not only on the French market but to our international clients as well," Jenny Bessiere, director of development, Ecocert, said. "This certification is suited for different client types, ranging from large hotel spas to smaller, independent structures. Our aim is to create a global network of committed partners. Due to climate change, wellness centers are rethinking their practices and the Sustainable Wellbeing Center label is one of the most effective ways of attesting to their commitment."

Barbara Pruvost, home and personal care certification manager, Ecocert, said, "Many professionals are taking initiatives beneficial to the environment, but they don’t know how to promote their efforts out of fear of being accused of greenwashing or a lack of legitimacy. The Sustainable Wellbeing Center certification, designed by Ecocert, will enable them to better structure and promote their actions, encouraging their efforts, and helping them take it a step further with a coherent, comprehensive approach."

"Through this label, we aim to promote sustainable practices not only in the cosmetics sector but also in the textile, home products and even organic food sectors within wellness centers," said Pauline Raffaitin, head of the home and personal care business unit at Ecocert.
