Q&A with Beau
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Beau Dieda (BD): I’m very athletic. I grew up playing sports, and I love the outdoors. My favorite past times involve being out on the lake on our boat (Jolene) skiing or hanging out on the dock fishing. I spend most of my time with my husband and our three fur babies: Mary, Sally and Dolly.
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
BD: My family owned a salon in my hometown. I was a receptionist in high school, and that’s where I found my passion for hair. I later went to hair school and then started my journey. I got a huge push in the beginning of my career thanks to social media.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment/achievement in the industry so far?
BD: Working with my dream brands, being an ambassador. Beyond that, owning my own studio space and being able to mentor my assistant from the ground up. He is now fully licensed and a great stylist.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
BD: I’m loving the big bombshell '90s hair movement that is happening. I love me some big hair!
BLP: What is a tip you have for your fellow beauty pros who are looking to grow their following on socials?
BD: Know exactly what you are good at and focus on that. Be consistent with your posts, and have a great vision of where you want to go.
BLP: What advice would you give to the younger version of yourself just starting out in the industry, looking back on your whole career?
BD: You’re going to work harder than you’ve ever worked before, so take time to take care of yourself. You cannot be a creative without first taking care of your basic needs. You don’t always have to be burning the candle at both ends to be successful. Your strength is in communication, so use that to your advantage. Not all hairdressing is about the perfect technique, so be you, be creative and let it flow.
BLP: What is a tip/technique you’ve learned that’s helped you be more efficient/successful in your services or business?
BD: Time management. This is huge. Know your timing, and stick to it. Learn how to work smarter not harder. Practice, practice, practice.
BLP: What is a practice/ritual you have to care for your mental health and set boundaries between your work and personal life?
BD: I have definitely learned how to set boundaries. I turn my phone off on the weekends and don’t make myself available 24/7. I get up and and go to the gym, spending time taking care of my body. This helps reset my mental health by doing something for myself to start the day with a clear and strong mind.
BLP: What do you think needs to change in the industry to help beauty pros continue to grow and thrive?
BD: More respect for our craft. Real business education from day one. Mental health prioritized. Community over competition. The freedom to charge our worth without guilt.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
BD: I would love to open a multiple chair salon someday with my business partner. I would love to have a one stop shop where people can come and get all their beauty services done in one place and a safe space where stylists can learn and grow.
