Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Adam Ryan (AR): I love to sing. My clients know this!
BLP: How did you get your start in the industry?
AR: Since I was a little kid, this is what I wanted to do. Every salon visit as a kid confirmed that this was the path for me. I couldn’t wait to start beauty school.
BLP: Who is someone you consider a mentor/role model in the industry?
AR: Guy Tang is my biggest mentor. I watched every single YouTube video he put out. He taught me so much, and he completely changed the industry for us hairstylists.
BLP: What is your proudest achievement in the industry thus far?
AR: My proudest achievement in the industry was opening my studio — a dream of mine since day one, and I made it happen.
BLP: What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve been given by a fellow industry/hair pro?
AR: The best piece of advice I've ever received is that communication with your clients is your best tool to being successful behind the chair!
BLP: What is a hair tip/technique you’ve learned that’s helped you be more efficient/successful behind the chair?
AR: Lived-in color has changed the game in this industry — long lasting beautiful results with less visits to the salon.
BLP: What is your favorite hair trend currently?
AR: My favorite hair trends currently are warm, rich dimensional brunettes and big bouncy blowouts.
BLP: Who or what inspires your work?
AR: So many people in the industry and on social media inspire my work. One who has changed my career and inspires almost everything I do is @lisalovesbalayage. I take as many classes as I can!
BLP: What changes would you like to see in the industry to better help hair pros grow and thrive?
AR: I would like to see more kindness in this industry. Instead of preaching community over competition, I would like to see it actually happening — less putting people down for being themselves and wanting to become something, and more stylists supporting each other.
BLP: What is a career goal you have for yourself?
AR: A career goal of mine is to do more education for other hairstylists. Go on tour. I love educating, and I have a huge passion to help new and upcoming stylists. I will also be a celebrity colorist — it’s always been my dream.
