Hi, my name is Joanne Chung (@hairxjojo), and I reside in northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C.. Starting as a child, I’ve always been enamored by the beauty industry. While getting my bachelors in business management (with hopes of running a salon one day), I dove into hair school in 2007 and officially got on the floor in 2012. I was at my first commission salon for nine years, then took a leap of faith and started renting a chair in 2016. From then on, a fire was lit within me and I made sure to make extended education a priority since I was now on my own. My most coveted certification is my curated cutting certification, taught from the industry’s own Anh Co Tran. Along with a passion for cutting, coloring also has my heart because the biggest transformations can happen within them. I am currently working out of Ash + Willow Hair Co, and I am glad to say that I finally found a salon where I am the most happy and content. I’m surrounded by so much talent and am inspired daily by my Ash + Willow family. Below are the things that drive my inspiration.

1. Effortless Tresses

Beachy, sunkissed hair inspires me because of the effortless nature it gives.

2. Beige, neutral milky tones

The different beige tones found in coffee inspire me. Literally, I had a client ask for espresso brown with a splash of cream, and I understood her vision.

3. Lived-in, coastal vibes

Looks like Karen from "Californication" inspire me. Her tussled hair, the color and the cut are everything. She exudes charisma. Need I say more?

4. Soft-melted color

The mushroom bronde tone is so beautiful! It is a popular request, and I can see why. It is the perfect balance of warm and cool. It is fitting for all skin types in my opinion.

5. Timeless looks

Parisian city girl vibes inspire me. She is chic, elegant and timeless with a bit of mystery.
