Under the wise tutelage of designer Max Azria, body-con line Hervé Léger is being countrified for spring, with rough-hewn denim, crafty crochets and homespun quirk lending a cool, dressed-down appeal to the glam label. It’s this arts-and-crafts melding of raw textures that inspires backstage hair lead Bob Recine. With Phyto products at the ready, Recine assigns a multitude of textures with random abandon. “Combining soft waves, post-braid crimps and straight bits really mirrors the collage of fabrics in the collection,” Recine notes. The hero product of the style, Phytolaque Hair Spray, coats strands “before, during and after” the styling to lend increased texture. “This spray works because it doesn’t give that old-school crunchy feel when you use it,” he says. Also stepping up the texture message: Phyto Pro Intense Volume Mousse. “Even though we’re keeping the roots flat, the mousse allows for volume through the length to enhance the textures,” Recine explains. And lest you think the style is all down-home with no flash, he throws in Phytopolléine Universal Elixir Scalp Stimulant on the ends to gloss up the finished result, granting the patchwork ’do a “luxe look.” —Karie L.
