The 2016 Goldwell Color Zoom Challenge is now open for submissions! Known as the haute couture of hairstyling, the competition is one of the largest and most prestigious color competitions in the industry, drawing together the most passionate and inventive colorists from every corner of the globe to leave their mark on the international style industry. This year’s daring Color Zoom collection, “D!SRUPT,” breaks through traditional constraints of shape, color and texture, giving stylists the freedom to be creative in unexpected ways. The theme dares colorists to be disruptive, inviting them to challenge their own ideas of style. First, stylists compete for the coveted title of Gold, Silver, or Bronze at the national level. The National Gold Winners then go on to compete against the top talent from around the world in the categories of Creative Colorist, Global New Talent Colorist, and Global Partner Colorist at Global Zoom. The international winners will join the Goldwell Global Color Zoom Creative Team, where they will have a hand in crafting an upcoming Color Zoom collection.

Last year’s event saw a record-breaking two US Winners take home top prizes, with Harley LoBasso from Delray Beach, Florida earning Gold in the Creative category and Corinne Brown of Seattle, Washington winning in the coveted Partner category. LoBasso explains, “Winning the Gold was, without question, one of the top highlights of my career so far. I’ve always believed that your passion should show through in your work, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know that the style I’ve created truly resonated with the judges.” Brown adds, “Before I was announced as the winner, Harley from the USA team had been announced as Gold in her category, so I definitely wasn't expecting two wins for the US. When they announced my name I had an absolute visceral response. All the hard work was rewarded with the highest honor and I couldn't control the pride and relief I felt when I won.” British stylist Natalie Cara Jones took home the highest honor in the New Talent category. The 2015 show also included the debut of the Stylists’ Favorite awards, a new set of awards determined by a worldwide vote. The first winners of the Stylists’ Favorite awards were Helen Heinroos from Estonia (Partner category), Bram van den Eijnden from Netherlands (New Talent category) and Alberto Torres Trevino from Mexico (Creative category.)

2015 Color Zoom winner Corinne Brown shares her advice with this year’s entrants, saying, “To recreate the look for the live competition, I would recommend practice, practice, practice. I compare it to choreographing a dance and rehearsing it - I had to learn the order of the steps and practice repeatedly until it became second nature.”
