Hairstyles How To: Jenna Dewan-Tatum's Effortless Updo

Celebrity stylist Derek-Peter Williams shares tips for creating Jenna Dewan-Tatum's effortless updo seen at the Alice + Olivia Melrose Store Celebration on Thursday, November 20th.

BEAUTY INSPIRATION:
“Jenna’s gorgeous black jumpsuit showed off her neckline, so we felt that an updo would look best with the entire look. But, it was important to keep the hair soft and modern because the jumpsuit was very linear."

GET THE LOOK:
“I prepped her damp hair with Bumble and bumble Thickening Mousse for volume and fullness and then blew dry her hair with a flat brush.  Once dried, I added bends throughout her hair with a Harry Josh Pro Tools Flat Iron.

Jenna had recently cut her hair short, and a lot of girls with shorter hair have trouble putting it up.  A great trick is to divide the hair into two sections (front and back). Starting with the back half of Jenna's hair, I tied it into a loose, small ponytail at the nape of her neck. Then I pinned the hair in the front half into a bun, using the ponytail as my base. I allowed pieces of her hair to fall around her face and finished with Serge Normant Meta Luxe Hairspray.”
