In Paul Mitchell's California Dreaming Collection, the artistic team taps the desert landscape as inspiration for a festival–ready vibe. Here, the artists divulge how to replicate the photo shoot's hero look, dubbed "Paul Springs."
With the soaring San Jacinto Mountains and iconic mid-century modern architecture serving as creative beacons, this look captures Palm Springs as a classic and glamorous desert retreat. Flecks of creamy yellow and lustrous rose gold grace a clean-lined bob.

Formula 1 1 scoop Skylight + 1.5oz. (45g./ml.) 40-vol. Cream Developer.
Formula 2 SynchroLift + 20-vol. Cream Developer.
Phase 2: Color Formulas (using only Paul Mitchell products)
*Note: Pop XG doesn’t require mixing with developer.
Hairstylist: Noogie Thai, editorial director for John Paul Mitchell Systems.
Step 1: Distribute a small amount of Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum onto damp hair.
Step 2: Blow-dry back and forth for natural movement, then make a side part.
Step 3: Take a horizontal subsection and mist strands with a thermal protection hairspray (like Paul Mitchell Hot Off The Press).
Step 4: Using a 1-inch curling iron (like California Dreaming Limited Edition Express Ion Curl), wrap the mid-shafts of the horizontal subsections, only wrapping the hair for one-and-a-half rotations around the iron.
Step 5: Continue to curl around the head.
Step 6: Finish with a tiny drop of Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum to add shine and fight frizz. Brush out waves for the finished look.
“The architectural elements of simplicity and geometric lines, along with the integration of nature, all influence the style,” says Noogie Thai.
