My Day as an Oribe Hair Model

When I arrived at the Oribe Backstage: On Location event at Siren Studios in Hollywood, it was in my usual capacity as assistant editor of Beauty Launchpad. But I left feeling like a rock star, thanks to a surprising turn of events.

After a successful Miami debut, Oribe's Backstage 2013 went on tour with a series of Backstage: On Location events across the country. Led by the Oribe Education Team, these workshops helped recreate some of the magic and inspiration of the main event in a more intimate environment. Attendees were treated to styling demonstrations of looks featured at the La Fama show, with an increased focus on taking the runway styles and adapting them for salon clients. Participants then recreated the looks under the guidance of Oribe educators in the Hands-On portion of the day.

Just before the Hands-On portion, I found a seat in the classroom that would allow me to observe the attendees—stylists from all over California and other parts of the country—in action. It was then that one of the show's coordinators approached me and said, "You look like you'd want to be a hair model," with a devilish grin. I had no idea what he was talking about. "Huh?" I said (eloquently). "Would you like to step in? One of the models didn't show." "Oh," I hesitated, before realizing this was a great opportunity to experience the Hands-On portion in a, well, more hands-on way. "Sure."

He led me to the stylist stations, which were well equipped with Oribe products as well as inspirational sketches and other tools.
