Blizzard Beauty: Kate Bosworth's Chic & Sleek Sundance 'Do

While we were in Park City, UT for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, Kate Bosworth took time out to be honored at the Creative Coalition Spotlight Initiative Gala. She was wearing a stunning Valentino dress which in itself was a work of art, and I didn't want to to anything too "busy" with her hair.  I decided that in order to keep it elegant, chic, and best compliment the high neck line of her dress to keep her hair in a simple updo with a messy bun. I started by blow drying her hair using Phytovolume at the roots to get some good root lift, and then I put a light wave into her hair using a 1 1/4 inch barrel curling iron. The next step was to lightly tease the roots, emphasizing the volume in the crown area. Then I parted her hair in the middle and ran some Phyto Shine Defining Wax through it to give it some texture. I then simply pulled her hair into a loose ponytail at approximate eye level to highlight those gorgeous cheekbones. I teased the ponytail, and formed a messy bun by wrapping and pinning randomly around the ponytail base. The finishing touches were to hold it all together with Elnette, and a light Biolage Color Care Sheilding Shine Mist. The result is an effortless, romantic look that just about anyone can achieve on their own. —Brian Magallones
