"Stem cell technology" is one of those phrases that immediately makes people's ears prick up, and as it's been one of the major innovative movements in skin care, we've been hearing it quite a bit. So, what kind of momentum are we seeing with stem cell skin care?
A Win for Sustainability
Consumer demand for clean and natural beauty has provided biotech innovation with major momentum, and the result is the ability to create lab-grown ingredients, like plant stem cells, to create high-performing products in high demand, without potentially damaging sources.
Personalized & High-Performing
Stem cell technology is also sating consumer demand for high-quality solutions to specific issues, like the visible signs of aging and acne, that are more tailored to their unique chemistry.
People can go to in-clinic treatments for stem cell therapy, to use their own or a donor's stem cells to stimulate collagen and elastin production through injections or microneedling.
The benefits of stem cell technology have also been harnessed by topical skin care too, through brands like Keracell.
Speaking the Language
One obstacle when it comes to stem cell tech in skin care is one we see with all things that face a major popularity boom: how to find out the real science-backed benefits in a world where buzz words can create a lot of useless, or even incorrect, chatter.
Many products on the market that boast the use of stem cells use extracts created from plant stem cells, the true benefits of which are their antioxidants and growth factors (although these growth factors cannot signal directly to live human cells.)
While these come with their own benefits, they do not have the same regenerative ability of live stem cells.
