NYFW Get the Look: 1970's California Girl at Derek Lam by Orlando Pita

Drawing on Derek Lam's Spring/Summer 2015 collection, hairstylist Orlando Pita was inspired by a 1970's, California girl vibe when creating the hair look to match the collection. The result was an edgy, gritty style that focused on dry texture and a little more movement in the hair.

Get the Look:
1. Prep by spraying hair from roots to ends with PHYTO PHYTOVOLUME ACTIF and blow-dry with T3 FEATHERWEIGHT LUXE 2I DRYER using a T3 PADDLE BRUSH to allow air to circulate through the hair, giving it more texture and volume.

2. Ends are kept straight using the T3 SINGLEPASS 1” STRAIGHTENING & STYLING IRON.

3. Use PHYTO PROFESSIONAL WORKABLE HOLDING SPRAY on the crown, and then set the crown section with a head wrap to achieve a more flattened, gritty look. Head wraps will remain on the models until the last possible minute to give a contrast between the mid-lengths and ends of the hair, and a more modern, textured look at the crown.

4. Ends and front pieces of the hair are given a hint of bend from the T3 WHIRL TRIO INTERCHANGEABLE STYLING WAND using the 1.5” STRAIGHT BARREL. Front pieces and ends are then finished with a mixture of PHYTO PROFESSIONAL MATTE TEXTURIZING PASTE and PHYTO PHYTOLISSE ULTRA-GLOSSING SERUM to give hair definition with the lightest touch of shine.
