Georgia Salons Raise Awareness for Childhood Cancer with Blessing of the Birds

On April 12th and 13th salons all over Georgia will donate $1 from every haircut to Radiation Vacation, an organization that provides recreational activities and offers emotional, educational and financial support to children receiving radiation treatment and their families.

The April event will celebrate a tradition known as The “Blessing of the Birds” which began in the spring of 2009 with a sweet 7 year old girl, Holly, that was fighting cancer. The loss of Holly's hair was very emotional for both Holly and her mother Janice. Holly comforted her mother with these words: “Mama, we can toss my hair out in the yard for the birds, they will feel blessed to use my soft hair to build their nests.”

Each spring Georgia Salons participate in the The Blessing of the Birds by partnering with Radiation Vacation to spread awareness about childhood cancer and raise funds for the charity.
