If you’re wondering if the obviously-not-from-nature colorful hair trend is here to stay, the answer seems to be … yes. Backstage at the Hervé Léger show Bumble and bumble lead stylist Laurent Philippon created sleek high ponytails embellished with streaks of either blue or orange extensions. They were applied at the base of the hairline and then secured into the ponytail. For added shine, he spritzed on Bumble and bumble Does It All Sheen Spray. [pagebreak]
The Makeup
To “emulate speed, movement and a futuristic robotic-like woman,” was makeup artist Val Garland’s ultimate goal in creating the look at Herve Leger. To do that she created a graphic doubled lined eye. She used an art brush to apply cream liner, which she then topped with Temptu Dura Liquid in Black for a longer-lasting finish. For personal use, she recommends using a felt-tipped eyeliner with a shorter brush tip as it offers up more control. Her biggest tip for applying a bold, graphic eye like this: “It’s all about being brave and fearless,” she says. Just go for it and clean up the lines with a Q-tip if need be. [pagebreak]
The Nails
With colorful streaked hair and graphic, statement-making eyeliner, the nails were kept neutral so as not to compete with them. Key nail artist Julie Kandalec created a cashmere finish on the nails by applying the Essie Ridge Filling Base Coat (She says this is essential to use when finishing with a matte top coat since matte is less forgiving when it comes to showing imperfections.) topped with one coat of Essie Ladylike, a light mauve hue. She then applied one coat of Essie Good to Go to protect the color and help it dry quickly, and finished with Essie Matte About You top coat. —Kristen Oldham Giordani
