Recently, Trevor Attenborough, president and general manager of KAO USA Salon announced the upcoming opening of the new Goldwell KMS California Academy, situated in the heart of New York’s fashionable Meatpacking District. Scheduled to open its doors in the spring of 2014, this large, design-forward space will be the brand’s newest East Coast flagship academy, proudly serving as partner to the Goldwell KMS California Academy’s acclaimed, original location in Santa Monica, CA.

The new, multi-story academy places a strong emphasis on the creative energy of the city with stunning rooftop classrooms that boast unbeatable views of New York City’s world famous skyline. Students will be encouraged to utilize the urban landscape as a muse in order to create bold, original work. Attenborough explains, “Whether drawing from the rich cultural heritage or striking architecture of this world class city, we hope that our guests will be inspired to take their craft to the next level.”

At the New York Academy, stylists can immerse themselves in custom classes specifically designed to strengthen and refine their craft. The “Inspiration NYC” course gives students access to Global Color Master, John Simpson, as they enjoy guided field trips revolving around New York City's unparalleled arts and culture scene, from world class museums, to vibrant neighborhoods, to the hottest nightlife. Advanced principals of art and design will be paired with raw, experiential inspiration as students return to the academy to interpret their inspiration into breathtaking styles.

For those interested in editorial fashion styling, the Academy offers, “On Set,” an essential workshop that deals with the most in-demand trends of the season. Led by Global Artistic Master Dimitrios Tsioumas, this fashion-forward course teaches students the fundamentals behind current trends. Students will leave with a firm grasp of different editorial styling method, techniques, and the latest fashion concepts.

The “KMS 2014 Campaign Sessions” class allows students to go behind the scenes, bringing the KMS California Campaign photo shoot to life with an advanced study of creative cutting and editorial styling. Students will have backstage access to the inspiration behind the shoot, the techniques used to create the looks, insight into the inner-workings of the brand, as well as the current year’s concept. Attendees will also learn to personalize the KMS techniques to suit their own clients and express their unique individual style.

The new academy will also feature an International Series of programs to showcase artists from around the world.
