Paris Fashion Week Hairstyles How To: Issey Miyake S/S '14

When creating the hair look for this season's Issey Miyake show, Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director for Wella Professionals, posed a very important question: "When is a mohawk not a mohawk?”

While the mohawk is traditionally known for it's punk roots, Souleiman "wanted to create a look that was strong and tough but at the same time elegant and chic - something that utilized old hairdressing techniques but applied in a more contemporary way."

He came up with a mohawk-inspired ponytail concept, a hair look both sophisticated yet deeply cool.

The resulting hair look mirrored the "play on light" within the Issey Miyake collection, contrasting graphic lines with an ethereal lightness that came to life on the catwalk.

Depending on your vantage point, every angle offered what appeared to be a completely different hairstyle.

Get the Look
Step 1: Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner, to ensure hair is in perfect condition.

Step 2: Apply Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to the hair, and dry back away from the face, creating a clean silhouette. Section off the hair on both sides of the head, leaving a panel of hair through the middle section.

Step 3: One side at a time, gently backcomb the hair section by section, back-combing only the first 10-15cm, spraying with Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray as you go.

Step 4: With a soft brush, brush this side section of hair, spraying with more Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray, and pulling it back to create a clean, sharp side section. Twist the hair into a French pleat and pin in place with hair grips. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the head.

Step 5: To style the middle section, spray Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray into the roots of the front of the hair and brush backwards to create a smooth clean finish at the front. Gently brush the middle section of hair backwards, positioning the ‘mohawk’ between the two French Pleats.

Step 6: Finally, spritz Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture lightly through the ends of the hair to create a dry, slightly static quality to the hair which contrasts against the clean shine of the side sections
