Get to know the talented NAHA finalists!
Name: Susan Haise
Salon: Neroli Salon & Spa
Finalist Category: Salon MBA
Reason I became a hairstylist: My natural talent for hair and makeup was brought to my attention by a family friend who was the director for the Florentine Opera at that time. She gave me the opportunity to work behind the scenes, and I fell in love with the salon environment energy. Before I knew it, I was enrolled in cosmetology school.
Best advice I ever received regarding my career in hair/beauty: Years ago a former business partner, Erik Knudsen, told me to always be open to sharing what your best practices are as it will always come back to you. While it took about five years for me to fully understand those words, it is now common practice.
Best advice I would give to a new hairstylist starting out: Love what you do and whom you do it with. This makes working easier when the tough days, weeks, and months come around.
Funniest thing that ever happened to me in a salon: When I have my hair colored in the salon, I take advantage of the processing time to walk around the facility and connect with my team. The facial expressions and body gestures that I have received from guests at times are some of the funniest things that have happened to me in the salon. For me, I view it as trying to maximize my day, but to others I must look like a crazy lady! of Y Public Relations]
