Hair Style Tips: Surfer Highlights

Celebrities are going wild for surfer highlights! Stylist Negin Zand of Sally Hershberger Los Angeles has seen tons of celebs coming in for the surfer-girl style, as it’s bright and beautiful, but so natural looking. A-listers like Cat Deely and Sharon Stone were recently in for a blonder, more vibrant color for summer.

Negin offers tips for radiant hair during hot summer months:

To protect hair from damaging summer factors like UV rays and chlorine, Sally Hershberger’s Hyper Hydration Super Keratin Spray is a great leave-in product to protect locks from the sun, heat and oxidation. Apply to wet hair, comb through and let the product do its magic. Negin also highly recommends Sally’s Hyper Hydration Super Argan Serum for similar results, in addition to smoothing and taming frizz.

If you plan to swim in a chlorine-filled pool, rinse your hair with filtered water before going in. Fiji or Arrowhead is great so that chlorine isn’t sitting in your hair.

Also, wet your hair with a conditioner like the Shu Uemura mask, so chlorine doesn’t penetrate as fast into hair.

Since blondes have the potential for their color to turn green, rinse locks with v8 juice. The red will neutralize any greentones. And if hair turns really green, Malibu Crystal Gel 100% vegan is recommended. It’s done in salon to take out any residue, chlorine, or salt water – anything that builds up on hair.

Last but not least, protect your hair from the sun with Shu Uemura’s Essence Oil, which has SPF to fight damaging rays. Be sure to rinse with water after being in the sun.
