Sweden’s Ari Koponen celebrates Scandinavian simplicity in his latest collection.
If you’ve ever meandered through the showrooms at IKEA, you can appreciate how much the Swedes value simplicity in design. So too does Ari Koponen, a freelance stylist based in Sweden’s coastal city of Gothenburg, in the exclusive collection Inside Out. “I am intrigued by how minimalistic styling can generate great impresssions,” says Koponen, a 16-year hair industry vet. “I find inspiration in trying to realize dreams and visions with a model's hair.” Sticking to a palette of navy, white and black, the hair is equally minimalistic and sleek, with a few crimps added in for interest. “Inside Out came to be after I tried Joico's new products," Koponen says, explaining that his aim was to complement the model's eyes with texture and form. "I wanted to see how I could move from simplity to more intricate creations using the same model.” Click through the pages below to see the transformation!
