The Hunger Games: Red Carpet Hairstyles

At the Hollywood premiere for the eagerly-anticipated The Hunger Games, the red carpet served up plenty of fashionable fare. Stars of the film including Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks and Josh Hutcherson—dazzled the fans that turned out for the event with fab clothes and chic hairstyles. Since Joico served as the official hair sponsor for the film, and Joico Artist Cherry Petenbrink served as colorist of choice, it seemed appropriate to turn to Cherry Petenbrink and Joico International Creative Director Damien Carney for Hunger Games red carpet insights and how-tos.

Allow the curls to dry naturally and avoid disturbing them—doing so can create unwanted frizz. “As you go along, create a loose, off-center parting,” Damien advises. “This will make a round shape look more angular.”

Then simply wrap the tail around the base to cover up the bungee and secure the ends. “Twist and fold the ends before pinning them,” Damien suggests, “and gather the hair into the ponytail with your hands so that it’s not scraped too tightly.” Rather than applying hairspray directly to hair, Damien prefers to mist his palms with Joico K-PAK Protective Hairspray and gently run his hands over the surface of the hair to fix flyaways.
