Looking to create reds that make hearts swoon and heads turn? Patrick McIvor, Artistic & TechniCulture Director for Goldwell and KMS California, suggests three simple keys to red-hot hues like Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wig and Florence Welch.
When looking for red colors that do not over glaze or fade, turn to Technologically Advanced Color Products and direct dyes.
"Using innovative dyes is probably the best way to create a long-lasting red, because new technology in dyes delivers intense color molecules that stick to the hair shaft in a way that makes them stay longer and shine better. "I am always looking for ways to make it last longer,” says McIvor.
McIvor uses Goldwell® Topchic® MaxReds Permanent Hair Color to deliver brighter bolder reds that are intense, vibrant and long lasting. They are formulated with innovative technology called Chromax™ for superior results. These Chromax™ dyes are designed to hold better because they deliver a pure oxidative dye stuff combination for long-lasting color and shine. They last up to +31% more than competitors and deliver intensity and shine that is +26% more brilliant.
TIP: Don’t Over Glaze/Direct Dyes.
McIvor advises coloring the base a stronger, more intense red and then when it fades less frequent glazing is needed. "If you color the hair to fade to be the red color you want, your not trying to keep it from fading from just the right red all the time. And when glazing turn to direct dyes like Goldwell® Elumen® Hair Color– a direct dye deposit molecule is better to stain the hair, it won’t over saturate it. If a red is over saturated, it starts to look brown."
NOTE: Pay attention to the second reflect color, it is the more important color to consider because it’s the orange, violet, gold or copper in the red that the eye responds to.
So, don’t be green with envy, create reds that others envy, like the ones on McIvor’s Pinterest Board: http://pinterest.com/patrickmcivor/ He will be pinning one red head a day during the month of February!
