In Memory of Whitney Houston: Music in the Hair

Beauty Launchpad had the chance to interview Whitney Houston's longtime hair stylist Tiffanie Dixon back in 2010. In memory of the great pop legend Whitney Houston, we share the interview:

Tiffanie Dixon dishes on music’s mane diva: Whitney Houston.

“I met Whitney years ago when I worked on her daughter’s [Bobbi Kristina] hair,” relates Dixon. “She liked how I styled Bobbi, and we started talking.” The rest is hair-story. “We’re a match made in heaven,” Dixon beams. “I’m one of the creative directors for her European tour, which begins in March. Whitney gives me freedom; she just trusts that I know what I’m doing.”

Cases in point: the two fabu ’dos that Houston flaunts in her “Million Dollar Bill” music video. One look is a smashing sleek and chic layered shag that Dixon flat-ironed to a polished T; the other, a sassy style boasting big barrel curls that flow with Houston’s movements. “I like to make hair dance,” enthuses Dixon. “And I love hair with lots of volume.”
Of course, LP needs more insider intel. What exactly does one of music’s brightest stars do for a good time on set? “Whitney loves Michael Jackson,” smiles Dixon. “On a recent photo shoot, she started blasting ‘Thriller,’ and she got everyone on the set to join in and start dancing with her. It was fantastic!” —Alyson Osterman
