Fall's Best Makeup Trends

In Beauty Launchpad's September 2012 makeup trends story, "Fall's Best Makeup Trends," (link here to page 116) you could go goth with a blackened berry mouth or sooty eyes, or full-on fun with multichormatic lids. But what about those beauty constants that always top our list of looks we want now? They're here, with Makeup Trend #4 Seamless Skin and #5 Rosy Cheeks proving that these types of subtle staples are here to stay.

#4 Seamless Skin (seen above)

Mattified or dewed-up with highlights, skin is the star of practically every beauty look out there. While flawless skin is the end game, the products and techniques used ensure a “breathable” texture where natural skin shines through. The idea is to capture “a minimalist, youthful appeal,” makeup artist Charlotte Willer says of the skin-centric look she crafts at DKNY.

Pair It With... colorful lashes. Electrify a pared-down face with a few lashings of vivid cobalt, emerald or violet mascara. To pump up color, first apply a base of black mascara, and finish with a dusting of like-hued loose pigment.

#5 Rosy Cheeks

A radiant flush is always a welcome refresher for winter-weary skin, and the “rouge awakening” for fall comes in the form of layering creams (or even lipstick, as is the case at Michael Kors) for a natural appearance. At Preen, makeup artist Gucci Westman first primes skin with face oil, then dots on cream blush using her fingers, blending upward toward the ear in a circular motion. “Cream textures allow everything to settle in, which looks so lived-in—in a good way,” she says.

Pair It With… a strong brow. Just as a flushed cheek denotes health, a robust arch signifies youth. Partnered together, they make a sharp beauty statement.
