Work some retro flavor into your clients’ makeup looks.
Lana, Rita, Betty—lonely G.I.s couldn’t get enough of them. Footlockers adorned with pictures of these sexy yet innocent ladies provided a source of comfort during World War II. And why not? With their cherry bomb lips, cat-like eyes and cherubic cheeks, these curvy cheesecake gals seduced soldiers with a beauty that’s now uniquely American.
This pinup persuasion could be seen on many a runway this season, and bringing the look home to your clients will have them heating up the streets during the summer months.
Celebrity makeup artist Jill Ventimiglia of Jack & Jill Cosmetics says, “Both stay-at-home moms and working girls can transform into a pinup.” Play up three key features: cheeks, lashes and eyes. Thick, voluminous lashes create come-hither eyes, while a sweet blushing cheek adds that dollop of innocence synonymous with pinup beauty.
“Apply blush to the apples of the cheeks,” says Ventimiglia. “And don’t be afraid to use too much!” For eyes, a stripe of liquid liner that starts thin at the inner corner of the eye and gradually thickens lends needed sass. “You can make it a dramatic line or, using an eye pencil, smoke it out with a sponge,” says Ventimiglia. She adds, “Here’s a pinup tip: Only rim the top of the eye during the day and both the top and bottom at night!”
