The Beauty of Green: Joico's Part in Preserving the Planet

Our Commitment
We are respectful of our community and our environment. That's why we developed these innovative measures to reduce our carbon footprint.

Harnessing the Wind
The plan is to generate 60% of the facility's electricity requirements from an on-site turbine by 2010, and 100% of the facility's electrical demands by 2011. What's more, we're working with the city of Geneva and the state of New York to provide this clean, efficient energy to residents and local businesses.

Packaging: Pretty and Eco-Friendly
We use innovative new blow molding techniques to produce state-of-the-art, gradated packaging that contains up to 70% post-consumer recycled materials. As much as 80% of all plastic bottles end up in landfills, but our efforts will help to substantially reduce those landfill contributions!

A New Light
One of the most impactful programs underway at the Geneva facility is a comprehensive electricity conservation program. Since its inception, lighting costs have been reduced by a full 30 percent. Upgrades in all facility lighting has reduced energy consumption by a whopping 70%! The environmental impact of this new program is equivalent to removing 245 cars from the road each year, saving 158,000 gallons of gas and planting 381 acres of trees!

Water Conservation
In addition to reducing factory water usage by five percent per unit, our new waste water treatment strategy program eliminates additional chemical treatment requirements from our waste stream. Our efforts in water conservation have been approved by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.

Transportation Conservation
Freight is the second largest consumer of crude oil in the U.S. and everyday, four million barrels of crude oil are consumed for freight transportation. By revamping scheduling and routing, we are able to save more than 40,000 gallons of fuel! In total, these efforts are equivalent to removing 500 vehicles from the road. The efforts contributed to an overall reduction provides the same benefit of planting 8,000 new trees!
