Pantone’s Color of the Year always sends a jolt of inspiration through hair salons. The ingenuity is twice as nice when the annual pick comes in two covetable hues. Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, “a bright and cheerful yellow,” are said to evoke two attributes we could all use more of in 2021: resilience and hope. Colorists on Instagram embraced the two shades, both independently and combined, for looks that lend a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel.
