Salon and Spa Specialty Insurance Agency (SASSI) has introduced the SASSI Salon Stars: Mental Wellness Champions Competition to highlight the many mental health champions in the beauty industry amid high rates of burnout and turnover. The contest is open to any salon, day spa or barber shop located in the United States, and anyone age 18 or older can enter the business in the competition, whether they are staff or an independent contractor. Entry into the contest is open until November 27, 2023.

Contest entries will showcase their salon or spa’s mental health journey or highlight a champion who helped usher a new age of mental health and wellness awareness into their business. The winning business will receive registration for America’s Beauty Show in Chicago, April 20-22, 2024, as well as a hotel stay and a $500 travel voucher. Winners will also be featured on SASSI’s social media pages, website and in applicable earned media opportunities.
To enter the contest, share a short story of 300 words or less, with any helpful photos and videos, about how your salon bolstered its employees’ mental wellness or how a champion within your organization helped strengthen your business' internal mental health program. The winner will demonstrate how the services, programs or changes they or their nominated champion implemented helped create concrete change for mental health and wellness issues among the staff.
