Based on the passage of H.B. 404, and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, licenses issued by the Board will not expire until July 1, 2021.  If you are required to complete continuing education (CE) hours for the renewal of your license, the deadline to obtain those CE hours has been extended until July 1, 2021.  If you have already completed your required CE hours, you may renew your license at any time by logging in as an existing user at https://elicense.ohio.gov/OH_CommunitiesLogin 

CE Exemptions  

You only need to meet one of the following to be exempt from completing Continuing Education hours. If you do not need CE hours, you need only to log in to https://elicense.ohio.gov/OH_CommunitiesLogin  complete the application and pay the renewal fee to renew your license.

  • Sixty-Five (65) or older, before October 3, 2020 you are not required to complete CE hours. Payment of renewal fee is required to keep a license current and active.  
  • Held a license for 30 years or more before October 3, 2020 you are not required to complete CE hours. Payment of renewal fee is required to keep a license current and active. NOTE: An Instructors license must have been held for 30 years to be exempt. 
  • First-Time Licensee If this is your first Ohio license renewal, you are not required to obtain CE hours for this renewal period. Payment of the renewal fee is required to keep a license active. NOTE: An Instructors license is not eligible for this exemption. 

Please Note:  If you have already renewed your license, nothing additional is required. 

CE Broker

CE Broker is a web platform which provides CE coursed approved by the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board. You will be required to register your license number for your completed CE to be verified when you renew your license. When you register your license, you must enter your license number with the complete prefix and number, i.e. COSA.000000.  You can complete the 3 hours of required CE (2 Hours Infection Control and Sanitation and Laws and Rules if the Ohio State Cosmetology Board) in CE broker at no fee.

License Renewal

Your renewal can be completed by logging in as an existing user on the following link. 

https://elicense.ohio.gov/OH_CommunitiesLogin?startURL=%2FOH_Home_Auth  your email address is your user ID. You will be required to reset your password. Click on forgot password and follow the prompts to change your password. Once you have logged in to your Dashboard click on Options on your license information and select Renew. As you complete your renewal be very careful to select the correct status for your license. When your renewal is completed you will be directed to your cart for payment. You will receive a receipt for your payment and will receive a confirmation that your renewal was successful, attached to the confirmation will be a PDF file with your license attached.
