Basim Shami, CEO of Farouk Systems, Inc., Judges the 2014 Miss Texas Teen USA Competition

The 2014 Miss Texas Teen USA pageant was held on Sunday December 1, at the Hilton Houston Post Oak Hotel. Contestants from across Texas competed for the crown in front of a live audience and panel of judges including CEO of Farouk Systems, Basim Shami. Farouk Systems is an international hair care manufacturer based in Houston most known for its CHI and BioSilk brands. CHI has been the title sponsor of Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe competitions for over ten years.

Shami and the other judges had the task of interviewing and observing one hundred six contestants all competing for the title of Miss Teen Texas and a prize package of a four year college scholarship, jewelry, travel, wardrobe, and the honor of representing Texas next year in the premier national competition, Miss Teen USA.

“The women chosen to be Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe become the spokesmodels for the CHI brand so I am always looking for the one who is confident in herself and more importantly looks like she is having fun. The CHI brand is energetic, lively and fun— so the winner needs to have a personality that really shines through. It isn’t all about looks!” said Shami.

The newly crowned Miss Texas Teen USA is sixteen year-old Kellie Stewart from Dallas. Kellie currently has a 3.6 GPA and is a National Honor Society student. She is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the student council, is a budding actress/model and has received numerous awards in volleyball. Once Kellie graduates she is planning to attend either Texas A&M University or Texas Christian University.
