To help your client create a beautifully elegant hairstyle, perfect for any black-tie event, try out this gorgeous Modern Twist by Seattle-based stylist and Creative and Education Director for Gary Manuel Companies and Aveda Institute, Gary Howse. Inspired by 1920's-era styling, this chic, and surprisingly easy to create look is the perfect blend of classic and modern.
Step 1. Curl client's hair in 1” sections horizontally using a 11/2 curling iron. Clip curls and lightly set with Aveda Witch Hazel Hair Spray.
Step 2. Create a horseshoe part at the crown and clip the top section up.
Step 3. Create an upside-down French braid with the lower section, starting from the nape of the neck and working upward.
Step 4. Release the top section and create two victory rolls by rolling hair around finger from ends to roots and fastening with bobby pins .
Step 5. Finish with a firm-hold hairspray and shine enhancer.
