Back to the future again? Over the past year the industry has seen an increased activity by the FDA and the FTC, and the creation of a new regulatory tool, the joint FDA/ FTC warning letter. With the advent of social media, not only do regulators have an easier time finding your products and claims, but consumers have found a new voice and are more effective in communicating their product opinions and complaints, not just to marketers, but to the FDA, states attorney generals and to the plaintiffs bar. Not only are we seeing increased activity by the regulators, but we are also seeing, private class actions challenging heath and safety issues associated with products as well as advertising and distribution matters. There has been targeted attacks on industry members by the Environmental Working Group including the most recent target against salons that offer keratin treatments.
Join the Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD), Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) and Professional Beauty Association (PBA) for the latest on the changes and challenges of pending legislation and what it means to you and your business. The panel of experts will review last year's regulatory activity by the FDA and FTC that affects the industry at large and issues that have arisen with certain ingredients. The panel will also review recent relevant private litigations on both advertising, distribution and safety matters. The session will be moderated by Pam Busiek, President / CEO of ICMAD on Sunday, July 31, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Pavilion D. A cocktail reception will follow in order to allow attendees to further connect and speak out on issues with representatives from their association groups.
