Sexy Hair Announces the Winner of Caring is Sexy: Design Contest Benefitting Nonprofit Partner, Look Good…Feel Better

To some, a can of hairspray’s only purpose is to be functional. To Sexy Hair, its number one selling hairspray is also a catalyst for spreading awareness and raising funds for a good cause. Cherie Porter, from Colorado Springs, Colo., was named winner of the International Caring is Sexy: Design Contest. Porter’s zipper design will appear on Sexy Hair’s limited-edition packaging aimed at increasing awareness for breast cancer. The special edition can will debut in the spring of 2012. Sexy Hair also awarded the “People’s Choice” favorite to Travis Hite from Fullerton, Calif. with a $500 donation to a charity of his choice.

Five percent of net proceeds (up to $40,000) from sales of the special edition can, in addition to $6 per submission, will benefit Look Good… Feel Better (LGFB), a national public service program that helps patients struggling with the appearance-related challenges of cancer treatment.

“It was wonderful to see artists put forth their best design in support of such a great cause,” said Karl Heinz Pitsch, president and CEO of Sexy Hair. “Cherie’s entry embodied all the characteristics of our definition of Sexy – caring, uniquely creative and passionate. We especially loved the idea of the zipper. It unveils the new can and the next phase of our continued support for Look Good…Feel Better.”

Porter, a wife and mother of three, entered the design contest on a whim, with no expectations of winning or even becoming a finalist. Her captivating zipper design was inspired by the shirt her mother wears every year in a local breast cancer awareness walk. Porter’s dream is to become a professional graphic designer one day and is looking forward to working with Sexy Hair’s in-house creative team to perfect her design concept.

Porter will receive:

  • The opportunity to work with Sexy Hair’s in-house creative team and build her design portfolio
  • International recognition for her design
  • Sexy Hair product valued at $500

Five designs were selected as finalists. More than 1,200 people voted on the finalists’ designs in the “People’s Choice” portion of the voting panel. The contest went live on July 18, with online voting ending Aug. 1. In addition to Porter, the other finalists included: Travis Hite, Christine Labrador and Leah Sores.
