Before winning a silver medal and two golds, Olympic diving champion Greg Louganis was a bullied teenager who was beaten up regularly and robbed of his lunch money. He even attempted suicide. Today the world class athlete serves as an ambassador for the It Gets Better Project, which provides hope and support for bullied lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender teenagers.
Recently, Louganis appeared at a special It Gets Better fundraiser, hosted by Matrix Artistic Designer Lenny Strand who also suffered from bullying as a teenager. This was part of the Matrix Chairs of Change initiative that celebrates the change that hairdressers make in the world.
Lenny celebrated his big 50th birthday bash with a party to benefit It Gets Better at the Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs, CA. Strand has the goal to raise $50,000 for the foundation and so far he has already raised $35,000 with the help of donations from more than 100 party guests.
Strand is not alone in his efforts to make a difference with the It Gets Better Project. His Matrix family has his back! Logics International Color Spokesperson Gina Khan, Vice President of Marketing Elisa Fischer, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Gail Cohen, Matrix Assistant Vice President of Integrated Communications Patrick O’Keefe, along with Spread the Love Ambassadors Jackie Marie Hovorka, Patrick Heid, Jessica Bosworth and Erwin Sapao attended to show their support for Strand and the cause.
