Hair Styles TRENDS: Olympics Styles for Everyday Athletes

Stylist to the Stars Laurent Dufourg, Offers Tips To Olympic Inspired Hair That Will Take You From The Gym To The Track To A Night On The Town.

With pride for their countries and excitement for the game, millions are tuning in to watch the 2012 Olympics. A source of motivation for people all over the world, not only are people watching each woman’s game, but they are seeking out inspirations from the fashions they see and the hairdos they don.

“Part of the Olympic ‘show’ is developing unique looks that are fun and functional,” explains Laurent Dufourg, celebrity stylist and the Founder of Privé Salons and Products. “These looks have to be movement and sweat proof so what better styles to pull from if you’re an active woman or an athlete yourself.”

Dufourg offers easy pointers on how to recreate the Olympic competitor’s sweat-proof, simple-to-manage, glam hairstyles:

BRAID: Olympians wear braids because they are easy to achieve, and they keep hair in all the right places. There are countless variations to the braided look, but the best way to wear a braid when participating in any kind of sport is in a ponytail. You can go for the classic French braid ponytail, which will pull your hair back tight and keep it in place. Another good look is a tight ponytail, with the braid on top of the head, similar to gymnast, Nastia Liukin. “Hair can be wet or dry when putting in a braid,” explains Dufourg. If you chose to blow dry, spritz some of the Privé Flash Brilliance for added smoothness and shine. To make sure these looks stay put, finish with Privé’s Firm Hold Hair Spray.

BUN: “Buns are so popular with Olympians because they are great at keeping hair out of your face,” adds Dufourg. Gymnast Gabrielle Douglas did it right with a sleek, graceful look that wouldn’t interfere with her moves. To get this look, dry hair straight, applying a small amount of Privé Styling Gel and pull it all back into a low, tight ponytail. Twirl the length of the ponytail into a tight coil and then spin it clockwise around the base, tucking in the ends and holding with four pins.  Once the hair is up, spray on Privé’s Firm Hold Hair Spray to lock in the look and make it stay throughout the day.

PONYTAIL: The most popular hairstyle of Olympic athletes is the ponytail, most commonly worn by the gymnasts high on their head with an 80’s style retro scrunchie. However, ponytails are not only for the gymnasts. Volleyball girls, such as Jennifer Kessy love to play up this look. Kessy wears the classic ponytail, but wears it high on the top of her head with rubber bands spaced evenly throughout. This look is achieved by adding a bit of Privé Relaxing Gel to wet hair, drying the hair straight and then applying a bit of Privé Volumizing Dry Shampoo at the roots to give the hair volume. After hair is up in the ponytail, add three tight rubber bands evenly spaced, and the look is complete.

SHORT BOB: Croatian National Basketball Team’s player Antonija Misura sports a hot looking bob that’s easy to manage. To keep the hair in place and discourage flyaways, use Privé Grooming Cream to damp hair and then when dry, spray on Privé Finishing Texture Hair Spray for extra volume, and support that will last all day.
