Salon Daniel Raises $400 for Autism Speaks

Salon Daniel of McLean, Va., invited its customers to wear blue in support of Autism Speaks and receive 10 percent off their total service for a one-day promotion in April.  The salon collected $400 in donations, including money raised from selling ribbons for one dollar and selling handmade earrings and necklaces by Melissa Lynn Designs.  They also hosted a raffle, where five winners received a haircut, Shalac manicure, ear candling, air brush tanning session, and a make-up application.

Melissa Silva, hairstylist at Salon Daniel, was inspired to host the autism awareness event because her nephew is severely autistic. She created Melissa Lynn jewelry designs as a way to raise money for autism research.  The money raised will be donated to Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
