Khan emphasized the importance of focusing on the client and meeting them halfway in order to keep them on the books--even if it means sacrificing a few dollars in the meantime. "If someone comes to me and can't afford my services, I refer them to a junior colorist, then a colorist-in-training, and so on," she says. "Even if the ticket price drops from $300 to $40, don't you think that the client will come back? And tell her friends? The money that you may lose in the short term will be made up through word of mouth!"
