With the popularity of barbering and barbershops on an upward trend over the past decade, now is the time to start a new association for barber schools.
There used to be a National Association of Barber Schools, which was a major player in the barber industry in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Unfortunately, it slowly died in the 80’s when long hair and unisex salons became popular. This caused many barber schools to become cosmetology schools.
With so many barber schools opening now and cosmetology schools adding barbering programs, we are excited to start a new Barber School Association (BSA) to help and educate schools, their instructors and students. This BSA is a division of the National Association of Barber Boards of America (NABBA).
NABBA launched in 1926 and its members are the state barber boards from across the US. NABBA has two conferences each year where the state board delegates come together for several days of updates and collaboration. NABBA conferences also include a day of education for barber instructors and other professionals called LAB – Learn About Barbering. Our BSA school members will get discounts on all NABBA-LAB education events.
As we all know, many schools, shops and salons had a really tough time throughout 2020 with the ramifications of the COVID-19 situation. Our approach was to use that time to survey barber schools to see what their needs were. Through those surveys, we have lined up wonderful industry partners to help fulfill those needs and to help Barber Schools grow and improve across America.
By joining BSA, barber schools can take advantage of offers from our industry partners. Our member schools will receive education and benefits for staff, instructors and students and receive discounts on tools and supplies.
Here is a list of our current industry partners:
