For her spring 2010 collection, Carolina Herrera has weaves on the mind. No, not hair weaves, but rather the “intricate forms woven in Japanese baskets”—an intriguing jumping-off point for a collection filled with gorgeous texture and shapes. Further carrying the weaving theme: relaxed chignons embedded with bugle beads that hair lead Orlando Pita fashions with the help of Moroccanoil.
When Pita met with Herrera, the designer handed him headbands with long, glistening strands of bugle beads (silver for the blondes, bronze for brunettes), and asked him to craft a hair design around them. “Carolina stressed that she wanted to mix very natural-looking hair with glamour,” explains Pita. To achieve this carefree yet elegant feel, he finger-dries strands, and then lightly mists Luminous Hair Spray to lend more “texture to help provide grip when pinning the chignon,” he says. He then parts the hair from ear to ear, puts the headband along the parting and pulls the front section of hair back over the bejeweled accessory. “You see the beads peeking out; they look like they’re embedded in the hair,” notes Pita. “And the Moroccanoil products highlight the natural texture that Carolina wants.” Gathering the beaded strands and piece-y locks into a low side-knot, Pita manages to dream-weave that perfect combo of two beauty contrasts: natural ease and elegant style. —Karie L.
