Event Recap: TONI&GUY Creative Release and 19th Annual Photographic Awards

It was a family reunion—in more ways than one—at the TONI&GUY Creative Release and 19th Annual Photographic Awards weekend in Dallas, Texas, September 6 and 7. The weekend kicked off with an exclusive White Party to fete the opening of the first TONI&GUY and TIGI co-branded academy. “What’s happening tonight is revolutionary,” enthused Bruno Mascolo, CEO of TONI&GUY. “It’s really, truly because we have the same DNA.”

In addition to Bruno, attendees included Senior Vice President Anthony Mascolo and his wife Pat; Founding Director Paul Joseph Marzioli; President Debbie Webster; Creative Director Zak Mascolo and his wife, Fashion Director Caroline Mascolo; and TIGI President Tom Monaghan; as well as many other members of the TONI&GUY and TIGI Artistic Teams and Photographic Awards nominees.

Guests—decked out in white attire—snacked  on gourmet flavored popcorn from Hot Poppin’ and gourmet cotton candy from FluffPop before students from the Dallas academy put on a mini Soiree featuring looks they had created.

The next day, Zak Mascolo presented the new Classics collection, an update to the training materials used in academy classrooms. The new collection includes 11 cuts, four updos and nine colors, incorporating TIGI’s CopyrightColor line—skill sets that were previously kept separate. “So many great students were coming out of our academies wanting to work for us, but they wanted to do cut and color,” revealed Zak Mascolo. “That was the future for us, so we decided to come with this total concept.”

Zak and members of the TONI&GUY and TIGI Artistic Teams demonstrated cuts, colors and updos onstage during the presentation. As a surprise finale, Bruno Mascolo, Anthony Mascolo and Paul Joseph Marzioli came out to style some fantasy looks live on stage—an act they used to tour but haven’t performed together in years.

The festivities were capped by the 19th Annual Photographic Awards, where students and faculty of the TONI&GUY academies nationwide were recognized for outstanding work in categories such as cut, color, total look and fantasy. The audience enjoyed a performance from the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blue Dancers to open the Awards, and kept the party going after the last winner was named with a set from up-and-coming dance-punk band Raw Fabrics. TONI&GUY students were invited to attend the weekend—airfare and accommodations included—for only $100, and nearly 1,600 accepted the opportunity.
