Backstage Beauty: Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2015

Hollywood glam set the stage for the beauty at Jason Wu. Kérastase lead hairstylist Odile Gilbert plucked inspiration for the hair design from iconic screen sirens Lauren Bacall and Charlotte Rampling. “We didn’t want to do something too retro,” shares Gilbert. “So we [created] a side part, set the hair with a wave and finished with a ponytail to make it modern.” To create the sleek-yet-soft ponytail set low at the nape of the neck, Gilbert first applies Kérastase Mousse Bouffante and Kérastase Ciment Thermique to the models’ dry tresses and then blow-dries in a backward motion to produce volume. She next crafts a side part and spritzes Kérastase Laque Dentelle section by section, making sure to twist the models’ locks with her fingers before curling with a 2-inch barrel curling iron for some extra texture. After setting the ponytail, Gilbert runs her fingers through the models’ tresses and applies Kérastase Baume double Je to tame any flyaways. The result: a natural yet polished ’do.

When it comes to the nails, Lancôme key nail artist Deborah Lippmann keeps it fresh, clean and minimal. Using only one coat of sheer white Lancôme Vernis in Love in Beige Romance on the natural nail, she opts for a classic rounded shape and length with the tip surfacing just barely over the skin. “It’s a lift of color. It’s looking like your [natural] nail—but better,” shares Lippmann. “It’s like taking a deep breath from all of the craziness from past seasons.” –Molly Church
