Here, you will get to know Anna Haldane. Haldane is a master colorist and educator at Anna Haldane Hair in Perth, Australia. In her Q&A, you will learn her favorite hair trends, a fun fact about her, her proudest accomplishment and more.
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Anna Haldane (AH): I am a massive J.R.R. Tolkien nerd and have a healthy collection of first editions, together with multiple other published works, surrounding the magic of Middle Earth.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?
AH: Taking the leap to become specialized in lived-in hair, which in turn significantly elevated my career and career prospects.
BLP: What is your current favorite hairstyle trend?
AH: Lived-in colors on a butterfly layered haircut. It's fun, it's fresh, it's feminine and so incredibly versatile.
BLP: What is a hair tip you have for your fellow stylists?
AH: Less is more. If you want to create popping ribbons, especially on brunettes, do not over-foil or over-paint. Learn where the depth needs to live in order for your ribbons to stand out; most importantly, keep it simple.
BLP: What inspires you?
AH: This will sound cliche, but I am genuinely inspired by music. Nothing can manifest a new vision in my mind of what I want to achieve, whether it is career- or color-related, like music can.
BLP: What do you love about your work?
AH: I love that I get to be creative daily, and in doing so, provide a service which results in an elated client–there is no better feeling. I have always been a highly creative soul, and to be able to call this glorious profession "work" is simply magical.
BLP: What motivates you about the industry you are in?
AH: The online community and support from my fellow colleagues and friends from around the world. It humbles me daily to watch the genuine love and support shared between hair professionals, at all levels and stages of their careers.
BLP: What is a professional goal you have for yourself?
AH: To travel around the world as an educator, sharing my acquired knowledge and skills, with other passionate up and coming colorists/stylists, so that I can assist them on their journey of career development and instill them with the confidence to execute their techniques skillfully and precisely. I am especially interested in moving toward being able to offer this education to individuals residing in countries where formalized color education is lacking.
BLP: Who is a role model you have in the industry?
AH: Tabetha Carns. We became friends through Instagram a few years ago, and I am completely in awe of her knowledge, strength and wisdom. I wouldn't be the stylist I am today without her.
