With so many personalities in a salon environment, conflicts can arise.

But how do you find the best way to handle them? How do you tell when an incident is isolated or a sign that you may be in a toxic salon environment? Below, our Instagram followers provide their advice for how they would approach conflict with their fellow salonmates.

@hair_by_leigha_: Always go to the coworker yourself and try to resolve it. If you’re in the right salon, your coworkers are like family, and you want to keep it that way. Be kind, open-minded and work it out as soon as possible to avoid the negative energy that conflict will bring. Your salon is like your second home, and keeping a positive environment is beneficial for you and your clients.

@hairbyaudreym: First of all, go somewhere private. Do not attempt to discuss something on the salon floor. Secondly, address it immediately – especially early in the day. If you wait until the end of the day, most of the time you will have gotten in your head and escalated the situation. Lastly, don’t cuss. No matter how mad you get, don’t take it to that level. You can calmly say what’s bothering you or your defense – whichever side you’re on.

@balayagegod: If something bothers me, I bring it to them, and be respectful. We are all adults.

@thesalonhub.social: When you’re in a suite on your own, you’re good!

@hairbyerinc: I would ask to have a private conversation and attempt to speak to one another with an open mind and perspective so that all feelings and thoughts are heard and put on the table.
