Below, Cahen shares her tips and advice for navigating social media to boost your business.

Beauty Launchpad (BLP): How do you use your social media pages to boost your business?

Kelly Cahen (KC): I use social media as a tool to highlight my stylists’ skills and expertise. It is important to share content based on who you are trying to attract. If the goal is new clients, you want to provide value to them that makes them trust you as their go-to professional. If you are looking to educate, you want to share tips and formulas that other stylists would find helpful. If you are an owner like myself and looking for talent, showcase what your team culture looks like and how you are different. The key to it all is showing what is in it for the person you are trying to attract.

BLP: What trends/post types have you seen to be most effective/successful for helping a stylist boost their business?

KC: For attracting new clients, I think that showing them what the client experience in the salon looks like helps them to imagine themselves in that setting. When they see other clients having a positive experience and a beautiful outcome from their hair, they are more likely to want to book a service, so they can enjoy the same experience for themself.

BLP: What advice do you have for stylists struggling to use social media to their advantage?

KC: Your social media is your modern day business card. If you are not showing up consistently, people will not know you exist. Focus more on consistency than perfection. With each post, you learn something, and before you know it, you will be able to look back and see how much you have grown. Don’t let the stories you tell yourself (people will judge me, no one cares, etc.) to hinder you from growing.

BLP: What resources do you recommend stylists use to help elevate their social posts (or what do you use)?

KC: My secret strategy is hiring someone like Align Creative Co. They are amazing at helping you discover who you are as a professional, put a plan in place and can also help you with some of your content creation. As beauty professionals, we are now required to wear so many hats, and asking for help and delegating is a secret I wish more people knew to do. You don’t have to do it all on your own.
