Social media can be a beast to navigate, with trends constantly changing and apps updating their interface and algorithms.

If you are a new stylist or even just new to the social media game, it can be difficult to determine what strategies work best for using your platform to boost your business. Below, our Instagram stylists share their advice for ways they use their platforms to help them convert their social engagement into loyal clients.

@salontrendnewyork: I believe social media has been the best form of free advertising to have a portfolio of what we do and who we are. Being in the industry for over 20 years, we used to not have a way to show our work and connect with brands and people all over the world. It’s a whole other job in itself, but I love being able to attract new clients by showcasing what I love! It also expands my creativity, and I constantly am learning.

@rubystylistchicago: Whatever I want in my chair, I post!

@byhayleighrose: The collab feature is amazing if your salon as a whole has a larger following than your personal account. When you post and collab with your salon, you also get the salon clientele exposed to your work and aesthetic. At my salon we share clients, so when I do a collab with the salon on Instagram, I get an influx of salon clients vs just my own or new clients.

@hairandhealthleshamarie: Ever since I’ve started my online platform, I’ve been doing monthly specials. I think people look forward to that, so I just continue doing it. Sometimes I make a giveaway and get people to comment or invite others to my page.

@hairbyerinc: I don’t necessarily use specific post types, but I do try to pay attention to the days of the week and times that my posts get the most engagement. I use social media and platforms for posting availability on my schedule, new service offerings, cataloging my portfolio and keeping clients updated with salon info and news. I think it’s a great way to connect with a large portion of your clientele!
