Recreate These Four 2017 Hair Trends

Now that the new year is officially underway, it’s the perfect time for stylists to get ready for the styles that are sure to be everywhere in 2017. While last year saw a fair share of throwback styles and retro looks, it’s time to leave 2016 behind and look to the future. The hottest hair trends this year are all about re-working existing styles, and adding subtle tweaks that create a big impact.

Flip through the slideshow below to see four of 2017’s easiest-to-create hair trends — plus the how-tos you need to achieve them!

  • ponytail hairstyle on medium blonde hair
    The Polished Pony

There’s more than one way to get a polished ponytail. Throw in some braids, hair ties and accessories, or layer it up for a “stacked” ponytail effect. High shine and ultra smooth strands keeps the look 2017, while nearly endless variations ensure that your client will never get bored.

  • wet hair style for long hair
    Slicked Back Strands

As Kendall Jenner recently proved on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, the wet look is here to stay. The sexy style gets an added dose of polish this year with a more controlled — yet still real — take.

To get the look, start by running mousse through the crown of the head, making sure that the hair is damp, not soaking wet. Next, rough-dry hair to about 70% of the way through, then use your hair dryer to pull the hair straight up while drying for added volume. Then, continue blow-drying, aiming the nozzle towards the back of the head through the ends for a smooth finish. Use an Argan oil, like HSI Professional Argan Oil Hair Spray, to finish off the sleek look, spritz some long-hold hairspray and lightly brush through.

  • romantic bridal hairstyle for spring wedding
    Modern Fairytale

Loose and romantic, the look is an ethereal take on the half-back hair trend that’s dominating Instagram. Effortless yet beautiful, this style is ideal for the client that wants something pretty, soft and on trend.

To achieve, start by curling hair with a large barrel curling iron. Part hair down the middle and loosely pull two identical sections back from the temple. Secure the two sections with a clear elastic.

  • easy pretty updo hair style for medium length hair
    Undone Updos

The epitome of on-the-go elegance, this trend is all about effortless-seeming styling for a precise, perfectly imperfect finish. For clients heading out to a fancy affair, this carefree look offers just the right amount of unexpected glamour.

To create an undone look, begin by pulling strands into a low ponytail, looping only halfway through a clear elastic on the last loop. Pull another small section from the ponytail and loop, securing with an unfinished tie, leaving a section swooped around. Secure with bobby pins.
