Today, you will get to know Mari Reed (@messy_tresses). She is a 29-year-old stylist at The Parlour in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Q&A:
Beauty Launchpad (BLP): What is a fun fact about you?
Mari Reed (MR): I’m an old lady on the inside. I read too much, crochet, collect house plants, and garden with my little family on the weekends.
BLP: What is your proudest accomplishment?
MR: Can I be that person and say this? Being recognized for my work/craft is everything.
BLP: What is your current favorite hair trend?
MR: Bangs! From baby bangs to curly curtain fringe, I love the art behind sculpting perfectly personalized face framing.
BLP: What is a hair tip you have for your fellow stylists?
MR: There are gonna be bad days – days when the hair doesn’t lift, you cut a little too short, the client isn’t happy, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t amazing or talented. Own the bad days. They teach you and make you even better.
BLP: What do you love about your work?
MR: My work has an effortless vibe to it – a “roll out of bed looking stylish” quality that is very unique to what I do. It’s about symmetry and creating artfully untamed looks individualized for each guest.
BLP: What motivates you about the industry you are in?
MR: My guests are amazing. They are all incredible, inspiring humans that trust me with their hair. Making them feel even more like themselves really propels me forward. They make me want to be better, educate myself more and create a safe, judgment-free environment.
BLP: What is a professional goal you have for yourself?
MR: I would love to work for a creative team, push new trends and educate other stylists. Maybe one day I will have my own studio, but I mostly want to continue creating but on a larger platform.
