The World Beard and Moustache Association (WBMA) is the governing body that is responsible for awarding the opportunity to host the World Beard and Moustache Championships to various facial hair clubs from around the world. Facial hair clubs are social clubs where men and women alike, get together to celebrate facial hair while creating new friendships. The World Beard and Moustache Championships is a biennial competition in which men with facial hair of all shapes, sizes and styles show judges their bearding skills. This year, the judges panel ranged from first-timers to seasoned judging vets amongst the competition community.
Having its’ first championship in Höfen an der Enz, Germany in 1990, the championships has since been seen in Anchorage, Alaska; Leogang, Austria and most recently, Austin, Texas.
2017 marked the first multi-day competition hosted by the Austin Facial Hair Club, spread across three-days from September 1-3 with over 600 competitors from all over the globe in 26 categories celebrating moustaches to, for the first-time on the World’s stage, women’s crafting. The event featured fuzzy-faced contenders duking it out for a World Championship title in categories featuring Natural Moustaches, Musketeer, Natural Full Beard 45.1cm+ and Women’s Creative Beard. For more information on each of the 26 categories (and their winners), visit Austin Facial Hair Club.
Each day of the competition was set to showcase different styles. Starting out the festivities were all five of the moustache categories and the four Women’s categories. Day two was jam-packed with beard hair longer, straighter and healthier than the hair on the top of my head, with the brunt of the competition amongst the Full Beards. Day three held the attention of the full auditorium as men with moustaches in the shape of mud-flap girls and beards that masked their faces into a wolf competed in Freestyle, where anything goes!
As the location for the 2019 WBMC has been known to be Antwerp, Belgium, the WBMA decided to add a bit more excitement into the last day of the competition by announcing where the 2021 World Beard and Moustache Championships will take place…

I'll see you all there!
