Redken Fall/Winter 2020 New York Fashion Week Show

Once again, Redken was backstage at many a New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020 show, creating varied styles to complement the varying designer looks. We have the details on how you can recreate these styles for your own high-fashion clients below.

MARC JACOBS: Past, Present and Future Woman

Redken’s Guido Palau spent a few days with Marc Jacobs planning out the show. In that time they came to be inspired by everyone – every kind of woman, and man, which lends itself in the show’s timeless look.

STEP 1. Prep hair by washing with Redken Detox Hair Cleansing Cream.

STEP 2. Center part hair using your fingers.

STEP 3. Allow hair to air-dry.

STEP 4. Apply a few spritzes of Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to roots to add volume.

STEP 5. If needed, use a 1/2” curling iron and add in some bends into the lengths.

STEP 6. Once cooled, run fingers through lengths to soften the look.

STEP 7. Spritz a few spritzes of Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray throughout lengths and ends and tousle.

 

COACH: Faux Bangs

Inspired by hairstyles from the 1980s coming-of-age flick The Breakfast Club, Palau designed textured fake bangs that served as a great way to play with a commitment-free  style, while also adding an airiness that brought out each model’s unique personality.

STEP 1. Start with clean, dry hair.

STEP 2. Center part hair using fingers.

STEP 3. Apply a few spritzes of Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to roots to add volume.

STEP 4. If desired, add clip-in fringe. Tousle hair at the crown to help blend.

STEP 5. If needed, use a 1/2” curling iron and add in some bends into your lengths.

STEP 6. Once cooled, run fingers through lengths to soften.

STEP 7. Spray a few spritzes of Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray throughout lengths and ends and tousle.

 

CAROLINA HERRERA: Rich, Modern Look

Palau continued the clean, modern look of the evening with a simple ponytail. This simple but luxe look complemented Carolina Herrera’s rich, runway attitude.

STEP 1. Prep hair by washing with Redken Detox Hair Cleansing Cream to clarify hair and remove any product buildup without stripping.

STEP 2. Apply a quarter-sized amount of Redken Extreme Play Safe to lengths and ends.

STEP 3. Blow-dry hair with a round brush, leaving it smooth.

STEP 4. Center part hair using a fine-toothed comb.

STEP 5. Brush hair back to the nape using a boar-bristled brush, leaving ears covered.

STEP 6. Loosely tie hair with a hair elastic.

STEP 7. Spray a few spritzes of Redken Triple Pure 32 Hairspray over the whole look to hold and tame flyaways.

 

PROENZA SCHOULER: 90’s Vibes And A Lot of Gel

Inspired by the strong, sexy women of the ’90s, Palau went for a square-ish, masculine shape. This gel-heavy, wet look gave an effortless feeling to the models as they walked the runway.

STEP 1. Start with clean, freshly-washed hair.

STEP 2. Prep hair by working a palm-sized amount of Redken Guts 10 throughout the crown.

STEP 3. Blow-dry hair using a round brush for volume.

STEP 4. Once hair is fully dry, take a heavy amount of Redken Hardwear Gel 16 and start working it in sections of the hair at the crown using a wide-toothed comb, intentionally leaving marks and squaring off the shape for a masculine effect.

STEP 5. Continue working the gel down.

STEP 6. Once the first layer is done, add a layer of Redken Guts 10 throughout.

STEP 7. Continue layering the two products until the desired effect is achieved.

STEP 8. Clip hair close to the head on each side above the ear and allow it to set.

STEP 9. Once hair has fully set, remove the clips.

STEP 10. Spritz Redken Shine Flash 02 throughout the whole look for a glossy effect.

STEP 11. If needed, add Redken Triple Pure 32 Hairspray throughout for added hold.

 

TORY BURCH: Soft Texture With a Twist

Part '70s, part Victorian, Palau created hair at Tory Burch that was notably soft-textured and featured a small accented section to create a twist.

STEP 1. Prep hair by washing with Redken Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner.

STEP 2. Apply a quarter-sized amount of Redken Extreme Play Safe to lengths and ends.

STEP 3. Blow-dry hair with a round brush, leaving it smooth.

STEP 4. Once fully dry, create a center part.

STEP 5. Apply a few spritzes of Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to roots and face-framing pieces to add volume.

STEP 6. Take a 1” section of hair on each side and bring them to the back. Secure loosely with an elastic.

STEP 7. Twist the secured pieces over themselves to create a rolled effect.

STEP 8. Add a few bends throughout lengths with a 2” iron. Once cooled, run fingers through lengths to soften.

STEP 9. Spray a few spritzes of Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray throughout lengths and ends and tousle.

 

R13: Rock-Star Look

The rocker, piece-y looks created by Palau—which included faux bobs for models with longer hair—complements R13’s signature outcast denim style.

STEP 1. Prep hair by washing with Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo and Conditioner.

STEP 2. Towel-dry hair.

STEP 3. Apply a heavy amount of Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame to lengths and ends.

STEP 4. Scrunch mid-lengths and ends throughout the entire drying process for texture.

STEP 5. For longer hair, once it's fully dry, begin taking 1” sections of hair and slightly loop at the crown area to visually shorten ends into a long faux bob. Secure each section with a bobby pin.

STEP 6. Once all sections are lifted and secure, take a bandana or hat and secure it around the head to hide the pins and give a rocker feel.

STEP 7. If needed, spritz Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texturizing Spray throughout lengths and ends and tousle.
